June 6th 1944 seem so far away now, a couple of pages in a high school history book is all our kids know of it. When I was a small child I thought D-Day was just my birthday (made sense to me since my name starts with "D") but the sacrifice of the thousands who died on the beaches of Normandy in order to make the defeat of the Third Reich possible, now resonates as a reminder to me on my birthday of just how much my life and freedom are really worth.
