Memorial Day

Monday is memorial day let us remember those who gave so we can live.
Do not thank us at the end of May
Do not thank us as we remember
Do not fail to remember this day
You can thank us living in November

Do not try to calm us as we mourn
Do not try to understand our grief
Do not tell us what we’ve sworn
You can tell us later, to our relief
Do not worry for our distress
Do not pretend to know our pain
Do not when we say “no” then Press
Our hurt is sometimes what keeps us sane
Do remember the fallen dead
Do observe the fife and drum
Do give thanks with uncovered head
Our service was not to fill a Sum
Do believe for freedoms sake
Do believe for blood now spilled
Do believe it bought a stake
Do believe our oath fulfilled
Do not thank us at the end of May
Do not thank us as we remember
Do not fail to remember this day
You can thank us living in November
