Bella the Black Phantom

Well our standard Poodle is home she is a black and silver phantom. not to say she is a ghost, Phantom Poodles are two color poodles whose markings follow a specific pattern See Wiki's article on Poodles for a full description. Every one who meets her comments on how pretty she is or that she is just beautiful, which simply reaffirms to us we picked the perfect name for her since "bella" is Italian for "Beautiful"

Any way Bella is a little over one year old. We have decided she is every much a rescue much like all of our other pets. She was bred on her first heat and is very under weight. the poor dear has little Idea how to be a puppy or a dog she has been in a "backyard breeder" program which is to say the lady who had her wanted to breed dogs to make money at it and had no comprehension of the needs of these wonderful animals. People need to understand that the majority of responsible breeders in the world don't make allot of money, even with Champion lines. Unless some one truly enjoys the company and breed traits of a particular dog or cat breed and is willing to put _allot_ of time effort and cash into care, and careful breeding, they may be doing them an irresponsible disservice by setting up a breeding operation.

If some one is in dog or cat breeding to make money... they are defiantly doing it wrong and likely too, knowingly or unknowingly, cause injury and anguish to the animals. In Bella's case poodles require grooming because they don't shed and their ears and paws have to have special attention by the groomer as well to prevent ear infections and sore pads. Bellas was clipped but not by some one who knew how to groom poodles.

In the case of our sweet girl she was bred on her first heat, malnourished and starved for attention. She is extremely timid from trying to please her previous owner who wanted her to stay put and make puppies. Thank God we got her after just one litter, with some love and training she will be a happy confident poodle again.

_If_ our beautiful Bella is ever bred again it will be only after she has reached her full maturity, after health checks of both her and the sire, genetic back ground searches and the puppies will only be released to individuals who we feel will be responsible pet owners.

Tonight she gets a full look over by her new Vet and on Saturday we get her clipped to make her more comfortable in a Texas spring (As well as to have her paw fur trimmed and her ears cleaned out and other poodle required grooming that this sweet girl never got)

As soon as I download them from the camera I'll post pics of her and our other fur babies on my Flikr and post a link here
